WHO WAS BARRY SEAL?
Barry Seal (born in 1939) was a Trans World Airlines (TWA) pilot who became a major drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel. When Seal was convicted of smuggling charges, he became an informant for the DEA(Drug Enforcement Administration). He also worked for the CIA(Central Intelligence Agency) for quite a while. He was murdered in 1986 by contract killers hired by Pablo Escobar, head of the Medellín Cartel. He had a wife named Deborah Seal and three children.
Barry Seal is also been portrayed by Tom Cruise in the crime drama-comedy film American Made (2017). It grossed $134 million worldwide against a budget of around $50 million and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Cruise's performance. You can watch this movie on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
DETAILED STORY OF BARRY SEAL!
By 1978, Seal had begun flying significant loads of cocaine because, in his own words, coke was “pound-for-pound more profitable” than cannabis. Soon, Seal’s talent had attracted the attention of the Medellin Cartel, and their mogul leader Pablo Escobar. Now Seal began working for the Medellín Cartel as a pilot and drug smuggler. He transported numerous shipments of cocaine from Colombia and Panama to the United States and earned as much as $1,300,000 per flight.
After successful runs at his home base in Louisiana, he moved operations to Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport, in Mena, Arkansas. He also bought a house for his family there. He had a wife named Deborah Seal and three children. Seal makes so much money he buries it in suitcases in the backyard. Seal enjoyed his life and made his family happy.
Unfortunately, Later Seal was arrested by FBI, DEA, ATF, and Arkansas State Police simultaneously(after CIA abandons him as shown in the movie). Seal approached the DEA and offered to cooperate with the government as an informant. Federal officials agreed to use him in that capacity and mentioned his cooperation during hearings in which Seal sought a reduction of his sentence. With an agreement reached, Seal began working as a federal informant in March 1984. They ask Seal to get photos that tie the Medellín Cartel to the Nicaraguan Sandinistas. Seal manages to get the pictures, but the White House releases them as propaganda against the Sandinistas. Seal is convicted but given a light sentence, a total of 1,000 hours community service for the Salvation Army.
Later in 1986, once when Seal was parking his car at Salvation Army centre, he was killed by assassins sent by Pablo Escobar. The assassins killed him with a gunshot.
The life of a man who became rich by playing all sides in the war on drugs came to an end.
Seal joined TWA in 1964 and he was the youngest pilots in TWA(trans world airlines) history. But his career got over when in 1972, Seal was arrested by U.S. Customs agents for trying to smuggle seven tons of military high explosive into Mexico. Seal escaped prosecution and some believe this was because he was already a CIA informant. Some say that Barry Seal was never an informant for the CIA as shown in the movie American Made(but it's a mystery that Seal was or wasn't a CIA agent).
