Ellen DeGeneres is an American comedian, television host, actress, writer, and producer. She has hosted her talk showThe Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003. DeGeneres also has hosted the Academy AwardsGrammy Awards, and the Primetime EmmysShe has won 30 Emmys, 20 People's Choice Awards (more than any other person)and numerous other awards for her work and charitable efforts. In 2016, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.




DeGeneres started performing stand-up comedy at small clubs and coffee houses and in 1984 she was named Showtime's funniest person in America. DeGeneres returned to television In 2001, DeGeneres started The Ellen Show, which was unfortunately canceled after 13 episodes. In September 2003, DeGeneres launched a daytime television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show It was nominated for 11 Daytime Emmy Awards in its first season, winning four, including Best Talk Show. The show has won 25 Emmy Awards for its first three seasons on the air.

In 2003, DeGeneres lent her voice to the animated box office smash Finding Nemoin which she plays a friendly yet forgetful little blue fish named Dory. DeGeneres later returned to the Nemo franchise with the 2016 sequel, Finding Dory. A unique combination of kind and funny, Ellen DeGeneres became a popular choice to host major awards telecasts. She was tapped to host the Grammys in 1996 and 1997; the Primetime Emmys in 2001 and 2005; and the Academy Awards in 2007 and 2014. Underscoring her popularity, DeGeneres in 2009 was chosen to fill the coveted fourth slot as a judge on American Idol, replacing Paula Abdul. DeGeneres is also the author of several books, including My Point ... and I Do Have One(1995), Seriously ... I'm Kidding (2011) and Home (2015). Juggling many roles in Hollywood, DeGeneres has continued building her empire. She owns her own record label called "eleveneleven," as well as a lifestyle brand called Ed by Ellen (launched in 2015) which sells shoes, home and baby items, accessories and a pet line. 

In November 2016 DeGeneres received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama for her contribution to the arts.

HER PERSONAL LIFE

DeGeneres was born in Metairie, Louisiana on January 26, 1958, to Elliott and Elizabeth "Betty" DeGeneres, who later divorced when Ellen was 13. She has one brother, Vance, a musician and producer. DeGeneres graduated from Atlanta High School in May 1976, after completing her first years of high school at Grace King High School in Metairie, Louisiana. In 1997, DeGeneres came out as a lesbian. Beginning in 2004, Ellen has been in a relationship with Portia de Rossi. The two got engaged and later married at their home on August 16, 2008. The two celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary just last year and are still going strong.

Ellen also launched a game show titled Ellen's Game of Games in 2017, taking some of the games she played with guests on her talk show( The Ellen DeGeneres Show ) and turning them into a whole series. In 2018, DeGeneres appeared in a new stand up special, Relatable, for Netflix after 15 years not performing stand-up comedy.
Ellen Hits the Blue Carpet at the “Finding Dory” Premiere. A full 15 years after the success of Finding Nemo, we finally got a sequel with Finding Dory—this time with Ellen’s character at the center of the story.
